"Northern School 1847 : " Cook With Rabbit""
Ecole du Nord 1847: "Cook with rabbit", oil on panel 54 X 41 cm, dressed in a stylish frame, certainly modern, but which suits him well 77 X 63 cm. Painted in the 19th century, our "Rabbit Cook" is part of the great Flemish and Dutch tradition that dates back to the end of the 16th century. Always using the same techniques, many layers of glaze in the service of an extreme fineness of detail and firm support so that the brush meets resistance. Here, in this case an oak panel made of three assembled boards (whose joint can be seen slightly on the front). Our cook, dressed in the fashion of the first half of the 19th century, stands in the embrasure of a window and is surrounded by a host of objects and details, game, exotic fruits, muscat trellis clinging to the wall which reveals the bricks in places and a pot of carnations. On the window sill, there is an unfortunately unidentified signature (how can artists who paint so finely sign like pigs?!!!), perhaps WERM? and a date 1847. In partnership with the Galerie Lafouresse, we specialize in paintings on the Basque Country, the Landes and the Arcachon Basin.
