Biography: Antonio Alberto Lampecco (Minucciano, 1932) is a Belgian ceramist internationally known for his spherical (round) vases with small necks. Born in Italy, the young Antonio, from the age of thirteen, works up to fourteen hours a day in Mason's small factory, right in the middle of the ceramics center, near Venice. For four years, he worked on modelling, looking for difficulty in order to better express himself already. At the age of seventeen, he arrived in Belgium at Rebecq and continued to grind, to mix, to turn. Then luck turns and he is called to Maredsous, in the ceramic workshop of the Abbey, connected until 1958, to the famous School of Art. Gold medal in Monza, Faenza and Prague, Prize of the city of Vallauris, in 1982, International Prize of Bratislava, in 1984, retrospective at the house of culture of Namur (1979-80), he was invited everywhere, from Berlin to New York, from Montreal to Paris, taking part in many exhibitions all over the world. However, Antonio Lampecco never sought to make a name for himself, he never claimed any title other than that of potter. Having always bet on simplicity, he seeks to model exceptional, irreproachable forms, covered with matte black or polychrome enamels. He will then be attached to the direction of the art workshops of the Abbey of Maredsous for which he will be responsible.
