"Small Art Deco Box Signed By Franck Antique Dealer And Decorator"
Superb little tortoiseshell and ivory box circa 1930. The box is signed underneath. François Franck (1872-1932) was an antiques dealer, decorator, designer-manufacturer of furniture and great patron (among others of James Ensor). The reputation of Maison Franck can be attributed mainly to the creative spirit of François, to his finesse and his talent. Protected today, hawksbill turtles are among the most beautiful. It was at this time that Antwerp established its reputation by producing tortoiseshell cabinets. François Franck is part of the tradition of these craftsmen when he makes his furniture in red tortoiseshell.
