Holy Family with John the Baptist and Saint Elisabeth by Josephine Calamatta (1817-1893). Idyllic religious painting: Saint Mary with Jesus, John the Baptist and her mother Saint Elisabeth, cousin of Marias. Painting created in the 1840s by the famous French painter of portraits, religion and genre subjects josephine Calamatta (1817 - Paris-1893). She was a pupil and engraver of Ingres. Josephine's first teacher was her husband, the famous French engraver Luigi Calamatta. He then followed the study of Hippolyte Flandrin and began at the Salle de Paris in 1875. At the end of her life, she entered religion. In the portraits, she had a very great influence from Ingres, whom he admired so much. In religion painitngs it gives a Symbolist intonation, and an almost aggressive color, evoking the art of the Italian Renaissance and certain works of Murillo.
