"Sign: Under The Sign Of Love … Circa 1700"
Extraordinary iron sheet cut "under the sign of love" from the early 17th century. This metal plate represents a lady in court dress under a tree from which towering flowers spring as well as a heart in its center, while Cupid in the guise of an angel with his bow, his quiver and his arrows faces. There remains by chance a partial polychromy but very original; we can imagine in particular the flamboyant and eye-catching red of its time... In the lower part and in the center (under the heart) we can see the rectangular metal elements set in, they were certainly used as an attachment. It is difficult to be more precise about the origin and/or the function of this mysterious object, but there is no doubt about the universal theme it presents: that of love. The plate is worn, pierced in places as you can see on the different photos that I try to do as honestly as possible. Despite the wear and tear of time, and this seems normal to me given the age, this evocative plaque does not leave anyone indifferent. Note: certainly unique object.
