Object description :

"Charles Nicolas Odiot : Antique Louis-philippe Era Sterling Silver & Vermeil Tea Set - Original Chest"
Exceptional and rare Sterling Silver Tea Set from the Louis-Philippe period c.1840. Service ccomprises a Teapot, Sugar Bowl, Jug/Cremier, Sugar Tongs and Tea Spoon, a total of 5 pieces presented in their original chest signed ODIOT. The chest as and Service are monogrammed "AG". Service inspired by the English style where Charles Nicolas finished his apprenticeship in London before taking over from his father Jean Baptiste Claude ODIOT. The pieces feature elaborately decorated scroll feet embellished with foliage and flowers, and scalloped rims emphasized by alternating scrolls and leaf motifs. The interiors of the sugar bowl and creamer are in Vermeil (Gold on Silver).
Each of the 5 pieces is punched with the Minerve 1st standard Hallmark Minerva 1st Title (.950), the mark of the Master Goldsmith Charles Nicolas ODIOT (Hallmark with the letter O and antique blade lit) received in 1826 is present on all pieces with exception of the delightful leaf-form tea caddy spoon, with his Signature in full "ODIOT ià Paris" present on the teapot, sugar bowl, and creamer shaped, and "ODIOT" on the sugar tongs. Revised and cleaned by our Parisian Goldsmith, this exceptional and rare 5-piece set is in excellent condition, and presented in its original chest, with only micro-scratches from use to note. The chest, which is in fairly good general condition, is complete with its key and the lock works perfectly, its chamois leather lined interior is well preserved, and is equipped with side carrying handles. The chest exterior has suffered the passage of time with missing brass inlays, and has small accidents and loss.
