"Ancient Floral Kashan, 128 X 200 Cm, Hand-knotted Kork Wool, Persia, Iran, Late 19th Early 20th Century"
We do not know the name of the artist who designed and tied this floral piece with a medallion, but the richness of the decoration, its central motif imprinted with a large medallion, brings a harmony completed by the delicate dosage of colours. Varied flowers, interlacing and arabesques that adorn this work are characteristic of the period from the end of the 19th century until the First World War. The central medallion motif is drawn and wishes to represent a large basin present in a flowery park with bold flowerbeds. Looking closely at the drawing, we appreciate the multitude of details and its delicacy. This motif is surrounded by numerous other flowers covering the field, intertwined like sinuous branches. The wide border, made up of varied motifs, palmettes and alternating branches, is inspired by old models from Herat. These old pieces are finer than the modern pieces and the decorations are often a thousand times more abundant, richer, more extraordinary in the patterns, approaching the decorations of the 16th century. The delicate colors blend beautifully together. We do not observe any reduction in the pile, the kork wool used is of first quality because of its great finesse in its preparation. The colors are fresh, soft and delicate, certainly they have lost their vigor but without loss of color and not insolated. The velvet is tight, the fringes short, the edges in good condition, the whole in good condition This piece was knotted under the Kadjar dynasty which ended in 1925. Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in the center of Iran. During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendor. Carpets with fine weaving, of a very great richness of composition, were knotted by the royal factory of the Shah Abbas. They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections. Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century. The revival of rug production began with rugs that are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance. These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century. The decorations are varied and offer meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant decor, trees of life. Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and designs, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian rugs. This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned. FREE SHIPPING FOR FRANCE as for all our rugs, big or small!
