Object description :

"Jizai Okimono, Large Articulated Lobster In Bronze, Japan Meiji Era"
Rare articulated lobster in patinated bronze dating from the Meiji era, end of the 19th century in Japan. our Jizai okimono is in perfect condition, this lobster is 26 cm long and 47 cm long with the antennae deployed.
the rivets are almost invisible and this lobster is fully articulated like the real lobster encountered in nature. the eyes, the antennae, the legs, the tail everything is articulated and this one is in perfect condition even the small antennae near the eyes are present.
a remarkable and rare work of Japanese gunsmith. this type of Jizai Okimono allowed master craftsmen armourers not only to show their dexterity and mastery but also ensured them an income at the end of the samurai wars, having no more requests for samurai armor.
with the creation of counters and the opening of Japan to the outside world, gunsmiths began to export this type of Jizai Okimono to the world.
we met crustaceans, crabs, lobsters and shrimps, insects, dragons, birds etc...
all articulated, the rarest in wrought iron are sometimes signed by great lines of gunsmiths.
our large bronze lobster remains a beautiful and rare example of these magnificent objects.
in perfect condition with a superb patina.
