Elfy Haindl-Lapoirie started her training at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. After completing her studies, she went to Holland and finally to Paris. There the ambitious artist began her exhibition work as an associate member of the "Salon des Indépendants", studied at the Académie Julian with Claude Schurr and was recorded in the studio of the painter Conrad Kikkert. The following years were characterized by lively exhibition activities and first prizes and awards that reinforced the artist's work.
Elfy subsequently studied with Henri Cadou and attended the master class with Mac Avoy. In 1960 Elfy married the French engineer Georges Lapoirie, a great patron and admirer of her art. During this period of the 1960s, there were also great international successes, so that Elfy's works were included in numerous important private collections in France, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden, Austria, Italy, Argentina and the USA.
