"Gibraltar By Louis Le Breton (french Naval Painter, 1818 - 1866)"
The busy scene of the Bay of Gibraltar was executed in the 19th century by the French marine painter Louis le Breton (1818 in Douarnenez - 1866). Breton studied medicine and took part in Dumont D'Urville's second voyage aboard the ship “Astrolabe”. After the death of the official illustrator of the expedition, Le Breton replaced him. From 1847, he devoted himself mainly to the representation of marine subjects for the French Navy.
