Superb bouquet of spring flowers: lilac poppies peonies, carnations on an entablature draped in green velvet.
Subtlety of details: droplets on the foliage at the bottom of the bouquet on the left, sculpture of the sandstone vase. Elevation of the composition. Sumptuous color palette.
Oil on canvas: some restorations see photo of the back. In a perfect state.
Possibility of a Montparnasse frame.
Clément Gontier, (1876-1918) French School He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse, before joining Jean-Paul Laurens' studio in Paris.
From 1895, he participated in the Salon of French artists. In 1900, he took lessons from the painter Benjamin Constant. Clément Gontier had his first success in 1901 when he won the second grand prize during his participation in the Prix de Rome.
Clément Gontier's work is known for its historical subjects.
He excels in living room painting: bouquets and still lifes.
