"Sculpture - Orientalism - Terracotta By Victorien Bastet"
Victorien-Antoine Bastet (1852-1905). Sculptor of Provençal and peasant origin, born and died in Bollène (Vaucluse). ''Egyptian water carrier'' polychrome terracotta signed ''Bastet'' on the terrace. Victorien Bastet began his artistic training with his admission to the School of Fine Arts in Avignon in 1871. He then joined the School of Fine Arts in Paris in 1872-75 then the School of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1882 directed by Aimé Millet - Sculptor, medalist and painter (1819-1891). His works, most often bronze, marble or ceramic busts are visible in Paris, Choisy-le-Roi, Maisons-Alfort, Avignon, Perpignan, Toulon... He is a gold medalist at the exhibition of fine arts de Marseille in 1879. Later, medalist at the Salon of French Artists in 1886, he became a member of the jury with Rodin, Carpaux and Dalou. Among his creations, we note: ''Abandoned'' bronze with brown patina, ''Eve'' and ''Manon'' two marbles commissioned by the city of Paris as well as numerous busts of artistic or political personalities.
