Charles Antoine Coypel (often called Charles Coypel), born July 11, 1694 in Paris, where he died June 14, 1752, was a French painter, engraver and playwright. He is First Painter to the King and director of the Royal Academy. He inherited the title of Keeper of the King's Paintings and Drawings, a function which combined the roles of director and curator of the king's art collection.
