A strong flight. in the format in-4 (292 x 172 mm) of 1 f. bl., 2 ff., 1 engraved frontispiece, 485 pp., 1 f. of table and 1 f. bl. Binding from the period of navy leather half shagreen, bold and thin blind fillets framing the covers, spine ribbed with bold blind fillets, quadruple fat and thin gilt framing boxes, gilt dotted fillet on the raised bands, golden fillets, golden taffy, golden edges. (Fock). Copy in an elegant contemporary binding signed Fock at the tail of the spine. The book contains 55 superb full-page engraved plates. The illustration is supplemented by a large number of in-text compositions. Copy bearing the half-title of a bat; in place of an English flounder. ''There is a second state of the title where this vignette is replaced by an English rule; the order of the two states of the title that we have retained, which is reversed compared to that given by Brivois, Vicaire and Carteret, is dictated by the existence of copies dated 1850 and presenting the English fillet''.
