Biography: Henri Alexander Robbe (Courtrai 1807 - Brussels 1899) is a romantic Belgian painter recognized for his remarkable compositions of still lifes, flowers and fruits, he generally paints on canvas or wood panel. While he had initially chosen a career as a music teacher in Paris, he returned to Brussels in 1840 and was trained in painting by his older brother, the already recognized painter Louis Robbe. He quickly acquired a reputation as a painter of still lifes of flowers (often a composition with roses, peonies, lilies, irises...) and fruits, which earned him success and prizes at numerous exhibitions. Most of his paintings are in private collections, and in many museums both in Belgium and abroad.
