Portrait of young woman with blue cape
Oil on canvas
H. 95 cm; W. 76 cm (at sight)
Monogrammed "MT" in the center on the left
Between the graceful face, the elegant pose and this blue cape taking a large part of the composition, this portrait with an oval view conveys a certain emotion. It is with a frank look and a waiting posture that this young woman captivates the viewer. From this set of imposing format, escapes an atmosphere created by a thick touch and sometimes even with an ounce of pointillism in the flesh. The refined still life, on the right of the canvas, also contributes to the diffusion of a serene atmosphere, by gray hues, a light and soft light. An approximate dating by clothing can approach 1870, corroborated by the back of the chair, where large nails hold the leather to the wood frame. A discreet monogram, but almost four centimeters located to the left of the back of this chair, could give us more information by in-depth research.
