Like many Alsatians, Georges Burger came to spend the hard years of the Second World War in Périgueux. Trained by Charles Weiss in Strasbourg, whose airy and luminous touch is found in his work, he will carry out throughout his career, still lifes and landscapes of Alsace. His life and his work remain unknown today, particularly in Dordogne where he spent at least four years of his life, from 1939 to 1943.

This atypical view of the Place de la Clautre and the Saint Front cathedral behind- plan is carried out under a tight framing, highlighting the All Saints flower market, and human activity in the free zone. Countersigned on the chassis, the work is titled "Toussaint sur la Clautre".
