This charming selfish jug rests on a small, baluster-shaped pedestal, its base and lid are adorned with twisted gadroons. The ebony side handle has the same decoration of gadroons at its end and is attached to the body by a molded disc. The diamond-shaped maker's mark inside which are inscribed the letters H and V as well as a rosebud and a star is that of the Master Goldsmiths Hénin and Vivier who practiced from 1891 to 1896, which makes it possible to date the object fairly precisely to the 19th century.
