"Empire Period Gilt Bronze River Scene (amphitrite)"
Beautiful gilt bronze representation from the Empire period of the Greek goddess Amphitrite. She is the daughter of Nerée and Doris and the wife of Poseidon. In Greek mythology, she is the goddess of the sea, the queen of the oceans, the mistress of sea monsters. The work of the French sculptor Dieudonné-Barthélémy Guibal (1699-1757) represents it very well at the top of a fountain which once stood in Saint-Michel in the Meuse and which today is part of the Public Arts Collection. from Montreal. Very beautiful bronze chiseled and gilded with mercury, fixed on a wooden panel covered with a garnet silk velvet. A note: velvet wear, but Empire period. Very decorative. Dimensions with panel: long 21.5x width 12cms. Bronze only: length 16.5 x width 7.3 cms
