"Amedee Baudit: "terre-negre In Saint-palais-sur-mer""
Amédée Baudit (1827-1890): "Terre-nègre à Saint-Palais-sur-mer", charcoal and white chalk on slightly wavy gray paper 31 X 59 cm, mounted under a 50 X 80 cm pass (background cardboard origin). Circa 1868. Some scattered foxing, traces of humidity on the marie-louise, unframed. Some consider Amédée Baudit to be Swiss because he was born in Geneva in 1827, but he settled permanently in his adopted land of Bordeaux in 1865 after studying in Geneva, Lyon and Paris and ended his days there in 1890. one of those who made the connection between the School of Barbizon and the modern Bordeaux School of Landscape, his talent as a draftsman was also praised by his contemporaries, with good reason as evidenced by this superb sheet of large format which shows us a rocky coastline close to the famous eponymous lighthouse.
