A fine example of a 17th century French Boulle clock inlaid with red tortoise shell and brass. The beautiful high quality case is decorated with finely cast gilt bronze ornaments on top of the clock with eight "torches" on the side with female busts converging in a volute of leaves. And on the front an ornament of putti with birds and a chariot with horses. The glass front makes the pendulum visible. A large embossed dial with inlaid enamel cartouches with Roman numerals for the hours. The clock has blue steel hands. Percussion every half hour on a bell. Beautiful historical condition with very decorative ornaments and Boulle technique decorations on the outside of the clock case. With fully restored eight-day movement with lever escapement. The original pendulum and a key are present. Signed under the dial by "Gaudron à Paris" 1675-1691 Rue de Dauphine Paris (p. 248 Tardy)
