The Ballet "La SYPHILDE" Gouache signed L GUASQUI and dated November 13, 1932 In 1932, a performance of this ballet by the Russian ballets took place at the Théatre des Champs Elysées. La Sylphide tells the story of a young Scotsman, James, who is loved by a sylph, whom only he can see. But James is engaged, and on his wedding day, the sylph seizes the wedding ring intended for his fiancée and flees into the woods. James pursues her and forgets his fiancée in the forest. James then meets an old witch he had once hunted and who is determined to take revenge. She gives him a veil, which should enable him to capture the sylph, but this veil is poisoned and causes the sylph to lose his wings and his life.
