Edition of 1707 in Paris at Denis Mariette. 4 volumes in folio format, full leather, gilt edge with small irons and title pieces in red leather. inside a beautiful ex libris with the coat of arms of its owner under the crown of Marquis. The dictionary of Morery or Moreri, is the ancestor of the encyclopedia of lights, or our wikipedia of today, it compiled all the universal knowledge available at that time in a single work with multiple uses. It is a great classic of the 17th and 18th centuries. It was published over almost a century from the 1st edition in 1 volume in 1674 until 1759 in 10 volumes. Some bibliophiles prefer the latest 1759 edition, as the most complete. However, over time, the latest editions have mostly been supplemented with surnames of the nobility of France. Other enthusiasts agree that the best editions are those from 1704 to 1731-32-33, mainly dedicated to history and geography, like ours dated 1707. Nice interesting set for its content, full of curiosities (the descriptions of the countries are crisp, compared to what we know today) and with a very strong decorative effect to garnish a beautiful library. The folio formats, which are the most important, are placed downstairs in a beautiful old library. Very good general condition, our 4 books are over 300 years old. some gaps and splits in the joints, the binding remains beautiful and the gilding well preserved.
