"Fireback With The Arms Of The De Farcy Family (99x90cm)"
Fireback from the 17th century bearing the arms of the de Farcy family, whose branch of La Villedubois was co-owner, with the d'Andignés, of the forest of Brocéliande (current forest of Paimpont) where it exercises the activity of master of forges from 1653 to 1860. The De Farcy family is a surviving family of French nobility, originally from Alençon (Orne). It was established around 1600 in Laval, in Mayenne, where it was confirmed in its nobility on May 26, 1643. It formed many branches, some remaining in Mayenne and others established in Brittany. Annibal de Farcy (1576-1650), Sieur de Saint-Laurent, lawyer at the Presidial Seat of Alençon then tax prosecutor and general of waters and forests of the County of Laval, married on February 8, 1601 in Laval (Mayenne) with Guyonne de Launay , is the author of all the Mayenne and Breton branches of this family, three of which are still extant. Our plaque was found not far from the castle of Villedubois, current property of the Farcy family, for twelve generations, in Corps-Nuds in Ile et Vilaine. Its coat of arms is surrounded by palm leaves and the corners of its frame are adorned with acanthus leaves. Its weight is 170 kg. Coat of arms: Or fretted azure of six pieces a chief gules.
