"Pillbox / Snuff Box "under The Sign Of Love"... Silver And Grisailles 19th"
Luxurious box with three compartments in silver and decorations in grisaille, Germany 19th century. Nice size for this silver box whose gross weight is 150 grams. Eventful oblong body opening on one side by two lids and on the other side by a lid. Rich foliage decoration around the edge of the box. Two lids are each provided with a miniature painted in grisaille representing children. In one scene the two children, a girl and a boy, are playing while dancing, in the other scene they are arguing; I let you decide in which order… No doubt, we are under the sign of Love! The other cover has an engraved decoration and represents the dove of Love surrounded by two cornucopias in a medallion. Each of the lids is hinged, has a push button and closes by interlocking; slight closing defect on a lid. Slightly vermilion interiors, hallmarks visible under two of the lids. I am not a specialist in hallmarks but I can say without further details that it is certainly a German hallmark, probably from the second half of the 19th century under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Note: good quality of execution. Delivery: €10 for metropolitan France.
