Aubusson Carpet From The Charles X Period, Circa 1825. flag

Object description :

"Aubusson Carpet From The Charles X Period, Circa 1825."
-Fragment of a low rug (woven using the tapestry technique). Decorated with medallions adorned with natural flowers on a burgundy background.

- On this wine-colored background stands out a whole network of repetitive green motifs borrowed from the plant world and stylized (flowers, caps and scrolls of leaves). This network of patterns runs over the entire surface of the rug bypassing certain areas to form medallions. The latter host in their center bouquets of cut flowers treated naturally. This fragment makes it possible to observe about ten flowered medallions, and as many different species. Among them, we recognize bouquets of tulips, roses, peonies, daisies... The colors have kept a beautiful vivacity, the wine-colored background offering pleasant contrasts with the spring colors of the flowers in the medallions.

- Carpet woven in an Aubussonnais workshop, Charles X period, around 1825 - This fragment of carpet is lined and has hooks allowing it to be installed vertically on the wall like a tapestry.

- To report, some old restorations, some lack of weft on the edge. Note, its rectangular shape is irregular; the choice of a harmony in the patterns with an identical cut on the side medallions took precedence over the exact horizontality of one of the sides.
