17th Century Fireback With The Arms Of Pierre Arnoul De Rochegude (78x82 Cm)

Fireback dating from the end of the 17th century, in perfect condition, with the arms of Pierre ARNOUL de ROCHEGUDE (1651-1719). His coat of arms is topped with a helmet and valance, two saltire cannons arranged in the upper angles for his charges as naval intendants and two anchors placed in a cross in the lower angles. A very elegant frame … completes its decoration. First "unique" lord of Rochegude in 1693, after acquisition of the two co-lordships (comtat Venaissin and Dauphiné) and the territory in freehold. He is also lord of Vaucresson, La Tour-Ronde, Haute-Borne, Pierrebelle and Lagarde-Paréol, by marriage with his first wife Françoise de Soissan de la Bédosse, known as the lady of Rus (1631-1699) and is maintained in her nobility by decree of October 24, 1705. The very long career of Pierre Arnoul, nearly fifty years, the beginning of which he owes to his father, demonstrates both his competence and his links with the Colberts. After having observed the navies of foreign countries, he successively held a large number of positions as naval intendant in France, both in the east and in the west. He thus administered the ports of Marseilles (1673-1674, 1710-1719), in particular the arsenal of the galleys, Toulon (1674-1679), Le Havre (1680-1681), Bayonne (1681), Rochefort (1683-1688 ). He also directs the organization of the classes and the supply of the Spanish fleet during the War of Spanish Succession.
