Gustave Fontaine (1877-1952).
Gustave Fontaine is a Belgian sculptor; He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and in Brussels with the sculptor Julien Dillens. He worked in Paris from 1919 to 1925. He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1921. Co-founder in 1918 of the Cercle des Quinze whose members are: Jos Albert, Brusselmans, Spilliaert etc. Participated in the Venice exhibition in 1922, exhibited at the Giroux gallery (Brussels) in 1924, at the Art Nouveau exhibition in 1927, at the Belgian Art exhibition in Stockholm and Riga. Professor of modeling at the Academy of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode in 1927. He made the allegorical sculpture "Autumn" to the right of the entrance to the Parc du Cinquantenaire (Brussels), on the rue de la Loi side and in Liège , at the Pont des Arches Resistance to the German occupiers, symbolized by a character concealing a grenade in his coat.
