Very beautiful oil on panel representing a young naked ballerina getting out of bed. Inventory number marked on the back as well as the title. Around 1930 Dimensions: frame: 55 x 70 Panel: 50 x 65 cm Painter and engraver Lucien-Henri GRANDGERARD was born in Nancy in 1880. He died in Perreux-sur-Marne in 1970. Student of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Nancy , then that of Paris where he entered Bonnat's studio; he was also a pupil of Jules Lefèbvre and Luc Olivier Merson; he attended the Julian Academy. From 1906, he exhibited every year at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a Member of the Committee and of the Jury. The Grand Prix du Portrait was awarded to him in 1933 and a Gold Medal consecrated his talent the following year. After the war of 14-18, he traveled a lot in Northern Europe in Provence and Italy. He painted landscapes, many portraits and many works devoted to women: bathing nymphs, nudes against a landscape background and dancers. His engraved work is very important with etchings and drypoints. He obtained a Silver Medal in engraving at the Salon of French Artists in 1929 and a Gold Medal in 1932.
