Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, circulated in the great south-west throughout his life. Pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the style of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of the picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, captivating valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to raise with a vital contrast.

The subject seems for the moment unique in the work of the painter. This low tide in the small natural canals near Marennes, the famous oyster country located between Royan and the island of Oléron, seems to have been achieved on a warm summer evening. The ocher sky gives the vegetation scorched by the sun and the salt its summery tones that holidaymakers know so well. The small fishing boats resting on their keels patiently wait for the rising waters to allow them to regain the ease of their flotation and their function. This charming panel made in 1924 allows us to see a new territory explored by Cabié from which he knew how to draw the realism and the beauty of the landscape.

We are looking for any work or any information relating to the artist to complete his biography as well as a catalog raisonné in progress.
