Claude-Louis Foncez alias Foncé (1713-1783) became a master in 1747. His masterpiece was a teapot with twisted ribs. he was elected constable of the guild of goldsmiths in 1754, 1763 and 1771. We also know of him a beautiful table fountain with three taps from 1758, the only Mons known to date, L'Orfèvrerie en Hainaut, 1985, p. 94.
Body and lid are gracefully twisted, the spout is decorated with foliage and rockeries. Just below the lid, a ribbon motif discreetly announces the Louis XVI style. The fretel is formed by a large open flower. the lid hinge pin is easily removable for easier cleaning.
It weighs a generous 995 grams.
