Important Landscape With Pond - F. R. Eteve, Dated 1926

This work of imposing size presents us with a pond crossed by a bridge, drowned in the vegetation. In the background, buildings with tiled roofs stand out against the sky. Strong contrast between the rather dark right part and the brighter right part. The touch is light, we can clearly distinguish the frame of the canvas.
Signed and dated lower right.
Oil on canvas. Very good condition, no visible restorations.

Félix Raoul Etève was born in Montmorillon (Vienne) in a well-to-do home. Her father, aged 42, is a publicist, and her mother, 17 years her junior, is a dental surgeon.
As a landscape painter, Etève exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français. Etève won the prize of the Society of French Landscapers in 1935, a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1937 and the Grand Prix Corot in 1938.
