In bronze, a crane standing on a turtle. The red-crowned crane (Tsuru) is a symbol of longevity (according to legend, it lives 1000 years), but also of wisdom, fidelity, knowledge and experiences that it brings during its distant travels. It also symbolizes marital love and fidelity, as the species is monogamous and unites for life (the crane symbols often adorn Japanese weddings). The Japanese turtle (Kame) is a symbol of longevity, strength and endurance.

Japan, Meiji era (1868-1912). Signature on the underside.
