"Perrault-harry Emile (1878-1938)"
PERRAULT-HARRY Emile (1878-1938) Bronze René Fulda Foundry in Paris Height: 20 cm - with marble base: 23 cm Width: 11 cm Marble base diameter: 8.5 cm Émile Perrault-Harry, pseudonym of Émile Alfred Paul Perrault, is a French animal sculptor born August 9, 1878 in the 16th arrondissement of Paris and died October 17, 1938 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Son of the painter Léon Perrault who painted his portrait (Poitiers, Sainte-Croix museum), Émile Perrault took lessons from Emmanuel Frémiet, professor of animal drawing at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. He then began a career as an animal sculptor whose small bronzes made his reputation. He met Myriam Harry (1869-1958) in Parisian salons in 1904 and married her on May 7, 1904. As Myriam Harry was a fairly famous writer in literary circles, he added her name to his. Supported by Madame de Caillavet, a very prominent salonnière, Émile Perrault-Harry obtained a travel grant from the Conseil Supérieur des Beaux-Arts and spent two years in Tunisia in 1906-1907. Myriam Harry had chosen the destination for an orientalist taste and she will speak with emotion of "this graceful Orient of Africa" shared with her husband, in Tunis la blanche. He obtained a gold medal at the Salon of French Artists in 1929, then was named Knight of the Legion of Honor. Émile Perrault-Harry died at home of pneumonia in 1938. His production is mainly known for his small edition bronzes: some are kept in museums, in Poitiers at the Sainte-Croix museum, in Paris at the Musée d 'Orsay, in Libourne at the Museum of Fine Arts.
