"Clement Massier Vase"
Pretty pot-bellied earthenware vase with green glaze lightly dusted with gold. The enamel decoration with thistles is in relief. The vase bears the signature of Clément Massier (1845-1917) - Golfe Juan Period: Art Nouveau Height: 32.5 cm Very good condition. After setting up his studio in Vallauris for a time, Clément Massier settled in Golfe-Juan in 1883, a privileged place of passage for tourists. He will also be the instigator of the creation of a School of Fine Arts in Vallauris intended to teach drawing to workers in ceramic workshops. From 1886, he developed an important and quality luster ceramic and surrounded himself with brilliant collaborators. He knew how to give his letters of nobility to a traditional technique and is at the origin of a real industrial and artistic revolution which gave a new and decisive impetus to the manufacture of ceramics in Vallauris.
