"Ewe Statue, Togo"
Beautiful and old statue of the Ewe of Togo. This type of statuette was used as children's toys and sometimes even as fertility dolls by women who then placed them under their mattress. Young women could also wear them under their clothes to help their fertility. The Ewe, located in the south of Togo and in Ghana, have the Ashanti as neighbors. They are known for their fabrics as well as for their small wooden dolls called venavi or venovi used, as among the Yoruba. Wood with honey patina.
