This piece is the work of Jacques-Augustin GANDAIS who became goldsmith and plater to King Louis-Philippe 1st in 1834, he founded his goldsmith factory in Paris in 1819. Specialized in the production of silver-lined metal objects, a technique from England (prior to electrolysis). he brought this technique to such a high degree of excellence that he became its ambassador and his reputation won the courts of Europe to which he provided exceptional pieces. To make the objects more resistant to the wear and tear of time, he covered the copper of the projecting parts of his models with strips of pure silver. The feet and the attached ornaments were made of solid silver. Our part is in good condition (traces of old welds). Around 1830.
