Jean Rigaud (born Jean Charles François Rigaud on June 15, 1912 in Bordeaux and died on February 7, 1999 in Paris) is a painter of the French Navy. Biography[edit | modify the code] Son of Pierre-Gaston Rigaud, himself a painter, godson of Charles Tournemire, Jean Rigaud entered Sainte-Croix de Neuilly in 1921 where he obtained his baccalaureate in 1930. he then studied at the National School superior of fine arts. He married Françoise, one of André Caza's sisters, in 1936. They have four children, including Olivier Rigaud, architect. He painted numerous paintings in L'Île-d'Yeu, the port, the sailing school, which he discovered in the 1950s and where he lived until the end of his life. He participated in the 210th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the United States in 1986, invited on the Jeanne d'Arc (helicopter carrier) then on the Rouen Armada in 1989. He frequently went to Venice. He exhibits in numerous Paul Durand-Ruel galleries, Galerie Carré, in Brie-Comte-Robert and is appreciated in the United States. In 1998 he prepared a major retrospective exhibition of his work at the National Maritime Museum but died shortly before the inauguration, in February 1999. The island of Yeu paid tribute to him in 2012 for the centenary of his birth. The Parisian Salons Jean Rigaud exhibited a work each year in most of the major Parisian salons, notably that of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, of which he was a member. He also exhibited regularly at the "Comparisons" show in the group of Maurice Boitel to whom he will introduce the island of Yeu.
