"System Cane For Writer, Writing Cane, Scribe Cane, Late 19th / 1900"
System cane, called “scribe’s”. It unscrews at four levels. At the pommel, it reveals a small inkwell with its metal and cork stopper. On the next level, a compartment allows you to store spare nibs for the nib holder. On the next level, a mechanical pencil. At the last level the pen holder. Visible in Catherine Dike's reference book “System canes”, page 137. This type of model was created at the end of the 19th century. A similar model with a small view in the pommel was notably sold as a souvenir gadget during the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900. These are fragile canes, which were not really designed to lean on, but rather as a accessory to hold in hand. This one is however in good condition, note a missing metal ring at the level of the nib holder. The entire cane measures 34,84 inches.
