"Large Bronze Sculpture "brennus" By Gauquié"
Large bronze by the French sculptor Gauquié (Flers-lès-Lille 1858 - Paris 1927), a student of Cavelier, he participated in the Salon from 1880, some of his works are in the Museums of Valenciennes and Reims.This work represents Brennus, Gallic chief of the Senones tribe, known for having defeated the Romans at the Battle of Allia, then participated in the sack of Rome in the 4th century BC.
He is represented full-length, brandishing a sword in his right hand, trampling the eagle of the Legion underfoot.
Titled "Vae Victis" on the terrace, bearing the signature H Gauquié and the inscription Beaux-Arts, round gold medal stamp at the Paris1900 exhibition.
