"Francesco Filippini "view Of Venice With The Customs House And The Salute Church""
This small tablet by our Francesco Filippina demonstrates once again the artist's attachment to the theme so dear to him of the lagoon: indeed, a theme that I would define as "congenial" to his poetic sensitivity and his technical skills made of allusive brushstrokes and touch , more apt to suggest the atmosphere of the subject than to outline the contours in a drawing way. As it is, in fact, in the tablet examined here, with a fresh brushstroke and decidedly supported by the great charm of the subject that inspired the best Italian artists of the time.
Numerous tablets of Filippini are known, all in small format, of this subject: they served as direct "impressions" (according to the expression used by the artist himself), and to then translate them into large canvases which logically have come down to us in fewer numbers.
