Jacques Louis David's workshop, which quickly became David's school, was one of the most popular places of artistic training between 1781, the date of its reception at the painting academy, and his flight to Brussels in 1816.
The life of the workshop is also well known to us, both through a large number of existing letters, but also thanks to the memories of Etienne-Jean Delécluze, integrated into the workshop from 1796.
First installed at the Louvre, David had set up a workshop there for the needs of his teaching and production.
This space was named “the Horaces’ workshop” in homage to the painting composed in 1784 and stored on site.
