Also known under the title “Cruel Love”, this sculpture in Carrara marble and gilded bronze is in a beautiful state of presentation. It was published at the beginning of the 20th century based on the work of Leonardo (numbering and presence of the signature on the drape), it can be compared to a copy referenced in the work “Art-deco” by Bryan Catley . Léonard VanWeydeveld (known as Agathon) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lille, then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, member of the French Artists since 1887. In 1897 he joined the Salon de la Nationale des Beaux society. -Arts, receiving numerous distinctions, he provided projects for the Sèvres factory from 1894 to 1904, a gold medal was awarded to him during the Universal Exhibition of 1900.
