*Michel JOUENNE was born in 1933 in Boulogne-Billancourt, and died in 2021 in Clamart. He is a painter, illustrator, lithographer and sculptor. Appointed official painter of the Navy in 1991. He is part of this breeding ground of talent from the “young painters of the Fifties”.
Famous painter considered a master of figurative painting, Michel Jouenne was also an Official Painter of the Navy.
Jouenne is a prolific artist, his works illustrate life and the natural beauty of our planet through landscapes filled with color. His paintings highlight the joy of his creation.
It surprises with its opaque and translucent materials at the same time. Michel Jouenne is renowned as much for his marine paintings as for his Mediterranean landscapes.
Inspired by the monuments and streets of Paris, he remains a lover of the south of France.
Today the Marseille museum is a place dedicated to the artist and managed by the Michel Jouenne foundation.
All his exhibitions bear witness to a creation that does not age. He remains attached to the gray walls, to the havens of silence of the rocks of Eygalières, Baux, Moustiers... It astonishes with its opaque and translucent materials, its large watercolor and trowelled planes, the luminous, creamy, porcelain shimmers.
In each canvas, it is the joy of his creation of landscapes or seascapes: silent landscapes opposed to the roaring of the waves. (Guy Vignot “Universe of the Arts”).
Between 1973 and 2006, Michel Jouenne received numerous awards and numerous medals, notably the gold medal for Arts, Sciences and Letters, he was a knight of cultural and artistic merit and received the first prize for lithography.
