This piece supports a magnificent decoration on a hand-knotted kork wool.
The almond green and red medallion accompanied by its two pendants on a field laden with flowers is absolutely beautiful; We find this same type of decoration and color in the corners, called spandrels.
Let's admire the elegant and wide border made up of flowers and large, complex palmettes.
Usual wear covers this entire piece which gives it a very special charm.
The general condition is good, there is no pile reduction, the selvedges are good, the fringes short and clean. An exceptional rug which must have required thousands of hours of work. The delicate colors blend wonderfully together, greens, blues, and reds, ivory ..... adorn this high quality carpet. The work and the delicate and precise arrangement can also make one think of an Isfahan but we are indeed in front of a Kashan. ## Not being a fan of brand new over old, the patina of such a carpet is what enchants me the most. Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran. At the time of the Persian Renaissance, in the 16th and 17th centuries, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendor. Finely woven carpets, of very rich composition, were knotted by the royal factory of Shah Abbas. They have become the centerpieces visible throughout the world, in museums and private collections. Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century, around 1870. The revival of carpet production began with carpets that are distinguished by the superior quality of wool giving an extremely velvety appearance. These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after one of the most famous master weavers of the late 19th century. The decorations are varied and offer meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, subjects with figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant decor, trees of life, vision of earthly paradise. Thanks to the superior quality of the wool (Kork wool, wool from the Iranian highlands, but also imported wool), their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their extremely delicate designs. and great finesse, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian rugs
