"Large Antique Jennens & Bettridge Papier-mâché Tea Box, England Mid-19th Century"
Large black papier-mâché tea box decorated with reserves of mythological characters and a profile, foliage scrollwork and gilded fillets. Domed hinged lid revealing two compartments where two rectangular boxes are incorporated to hold tea. Debossed mark under the base of the object: Jennens & Betridge, London Birmingham, circa 1850. Dimensions: length 37 cm, width 22 cm, height 21 cm. Good exterior presentation condition. A container is missing inside the center. Small cracks on the hinges, which do not compromise the item if handled with care.
