Oil on panel, after Wouwermans, 18th century H. 22.5 cm - L. 34.5 cm Gilded wooden frame Bears a label on the back: "VINNE (Jan van der) known as Jean des Nageoires, painter of hunting subjects and military subjects and etching engraver, born in Harlem on February 3, 1663 and died in the same city on March 1, 1721 (Dutch school)" Philipp Wouvermans or Wouverman (1619-1668) is a highly appreciated painter from Haarlem in his time, up to the Court of Louis XIV. His works enriched numerous princely collections in Europe. He is particularly known for his genre scenes, including military scenes of assault, encampment, or halt like the painting we are offering, and which was clearly produced by one of his followers in the 18th century, which attests of his long reputation as a painter.
