Saint Ursula Martyr - Oil On Canvas - 17th Century

It is difficult to say whether Saint Catherine, Justine or Ursula is represented here with the palm which is the traditional attribute of martyrs. The loose red dress, however, leads me to believe that this is Saint Ursula of Cologne. The palm was originally the symbol of military victory. We find this analogy with the holy martyrs who offer their lives in the name of Christ, thus seeing their faith...victorious.
Our character shrouded in his Holiness and with a pleading look is quite expressive. This painting, French school, is re-canvased and in poor condition. Victim of numerous accidents and an old restoration, it nevertheless retains a certain grace.
It is protected by an elegant carved wooden frame, also from the 17th century.

The dimensions with the frame are 98 cm high by 82 cm wide. The dimensions of the painting itself are 74 cm by 57 cm.
If this painting has suffered a lot, it allows you to obtain a very old work of almost 400 years old at a low price.
