The advantage of this process is lightness, solidity and soundlessness; the oldest models emerged in the Middle Ages, in the 16th century in Scotland, called Blackjacks. These seem to be French, Directoire period, and I suppose that they were part of the train of senior officers in the field, under the 1st Empire, without however having found any proof of this.
Quite good condition, one is impeccable, no signs of use, the other, not bituminized below foot has suffered, is a little twisted and cracked, and also has a small restoration on handle. (red arrow)
