Elongated Japanese planter in patinated bronze. The handles are shaped like the heads of mythical creatures, the surface of the container is decorated with a rich kachō-ga type composition showing birds on flowering trees at the water's edge.

Japan, Meiji era (1868-1912). Signed "大日本京都村上造 - Dai Nippon Kyoto Murakami zo".

Marukami (active before 1876 - c. 1915) - family business founded by Murakami Torajiro, exhibited its selections at the 1876 World's Fair in Philadelphia, among others. Known for its high quality artistic products in bronze, silver, lacquer or wood.

Length 38 cm, width 22 cm, height 18.5 cm.
